“White Christmas” is an arrangement I did for Collin Raye and his Xmas CD. We recorded this with a beautiful orchestra in Nashville. John Hobbs, an incredible musician I have known since he was a teenager, was the producer. Watching his career soar over the years has been fun for me.
Collin is an amazing singer who is primarily known in the country music field but has an incredible range of musical styles. He is a joy to work with and I conducted and arranged many pop symphony dates with him. I would love to get back in the studio with him again someday and record some of the great America ballads. LIke me, he is also a history buff and we spend a lot of times refighting some of the great battles of World War Two together.

“Sweet Little Jesus Boy” is an arrangement for Kenny Rogers for his Xmas album. The background vocal group is named “Glad”. I’ve known Kenny since high school and I know that his musical roots are in the jazz genre’ so I decided to use a jazz vocal group in juxtaposition to the funky blues feel that Kenny used in this classic old spiritual. I love the tight harmonies of the vocal group and I think it plays very well with Kenny’s style.

“Cowboy Overture” was written for Michael Martin Murphey’s Sagebrush Symphony CD. It was performed live in concert by the San Antonio Symphony. This beautiful CD was produced by Jim Ed Norman who asked me to put together a suite featuring some of the traditional cowboy songs. The simplicity of the melodies really spoke to me and I took an Aaron Copland approach to the piece. Christopher Wilkens conducted the orchestra.
