He spent a career scoring Hollywood. Now he paints the sky.
Larry Cansler grew up under the big skies of the Texas prairie, then spent a career in the Los Angeles studios as an Emmy-nominated composer and arranger, writing for Michael Jackson, Kenny Rogers, Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton and Glen Campbell. He wrote the music for "Wildfire," and his symphony Mojave was performed at the Kennedy Center.
Clouds never let go of him. He earned a pilot’s license and flew gliders over the Mojave Desert to get closer to them. Today he paints them in oil from his studio in the foothills above Tucson, where the summer monsoon puts on a show every afternoon.
Original paintings are available in The Desert Sky Suite. New work is added regularly, so join the mailing list to see it first.
From the studio
Larry posts from the easel most mornings: a canvas in progress, a sketch, a storm coming in over the Catalinas. Follow along on Facebook or Instagram.
